grindworks Wedges

Every golfer is different. Different ability, different swings and we even play on different courses with different conditions. So why should we all play the same wedges? grindworks wedges are specially designed and grinded to match specific swing types and different course conditions. Are you a steep swinger with huge divots? Are you a sweeper who takes little to no divots? Do you need more bounce and a wider sole in your sand wedge but prefer a thin sole and less bounce in your approach wedge?

Grindworks Forged Tungsten Wedge

The grindworks Forged Tungsten Wedge is forged from S20C carbon steel for that soft impact feel and extra bite on the ball. While many wedges on the market today and most classic wedges are designed with most of the weight towards the sole, our design features what we call a Hollow Gravity Chamber, where the back face of the wedge has been hollowed out to help move the center of gravity higher in the wedge.

We also designed the wedge with a thicker top blade section with tungsten weight forged into the head (making the weights invisible).  This also helps bring CG higher in the head. We tapered off the top line in order to keep it pleasant looking at address. Wedges with lower CG in their design are not as stable at attacking the pin due to a higher trajectory which is also affected by the wind. A raised CG creates a powerful at the pin trajectory with increased back spin.

The grindworks Forged Tungsten Wedge also features a straight neck with a teardrop shape head, a trailing edge grind on the sole and heel relief for more workability and versatility. Attack the pin with confidence!

Without a doubt we wanted to design a wedge with a higher center of gravity in order to produce more stability, accuracy and spin when attacking the pin. In recent years, other brands have also implemented higher CG style wedge designs, but many of these designs included drilling unsightly holes or adding visually displeasing weight inserts or screws.

As with our irons, we wanted to keep the design clean and simple yet somehow move a large amount of weight higher in the head. Our designer implemented a what we dubbed a Hollow Gravity Chamber, or a simple removal of weight from the lower portion of the wedge.

We then forged 20 grams of tungsten weight towards the top blade of the wedge and tapered off the top line to give it a more pleasing appearance at address. The tungsten weight is invisible to the eye which helps maintain the wedge’s clean look and achieve the higher CG we desired for more spin and control.

86 Series Wedges

When it comes to material, we wanted something soft but durable. Soft carbon steel is common among wedges (S20C, S25c) however will rust without plating and is easily dinged. We decided to go with a soft stainless alloy called SUS218. It’s hardness rating (HRB) is identical to S20C steel but is more durable and much less susceptible to corrosion. It’s high contents of nickel and chromium create a very similar feel to forged carbon steel at impact and keeping the wedges raw result in more bite and spin on the ball at impact.

SM Series Wedge

grindworks SM Series is another variation of the 86 Series with the similar shapes and sole grinds but with a specially laser milled face. Like the 86 Series, the SM Series is available in a variety of grinds and lofts to suit different players.
